1960-70s Second Fame: Lee becomes a Gourmet Cook

Haute Cuisine: Lee Miller’s Recipes for Guacamole and Other Dishes from the Pages of Vogue.
“Lee Miller—raving beauty, muse to surrealists Man Ray and Jean Cocteau, Vogue’s fearless war correspondent—was also a great cook, having studied at the Cordon Bleu. In 1965, she sat down to dish with Ninette Lyon, a good friend and creator of Vogue’s “Second Fame” series.” Photographed by Cecil Beaton with Roland Penrose, originally published in the April 15, 1965 issue of Vogue.

How Lee Miller Reinvented Herself as a Gourmet Chef: This underdocumented period of her life is brought to light by her granddaughter, Ami Bouhassane, who has painstakingly compiled Miller’s favourite recipes in Lee Miller: A Life with Food, Friends, and Recipes. “I got tired of the last 20 years of her life being overlooked,” says Bouhassane. “It happens quite a bit when creative women’s stories are told – it’s like after childbirth or around menopause their inventiveness miraculously no longer exists.
